Compatibility Issue: Apple’s Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter Not Working on iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5

Compatibility Issue: Apple's Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter Not Working on iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5

According to reports from several users across MacRumors Forums, Apple Support Community, and Reddit, the Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter from Apple is not compatible with iPhones and iPads running iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5.

The Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter is designed with a USB-A port, allowing users to connect cameras, microphones, or other USB-powered accessories to their iPhones or iPads. Additionally, it features a Lightning port for charging the connected iPhone or iPad. However, users who have updated to iOS 16.5 and iPadOS 16.5 have experienced issues where the adapter no longer provides power to devices connected through both ports.

The problem is likely caused by a software bug that will require attention in a future iOS update. The exact cause of the issue remains unknown. Apple recently released the first beta of iOS 16.6 to developers, but it is expected to be several weeks before the update is publicly released. As a result, it may be necessary for Apple to issue an iOS 16.5.1 update if they intend to address the bug sooner.

In other news, Apple released iOS 16.5 on Thursday after a seven-week beta testing period. This update includes relatively minor changes such as a Sports tab in the Apple News app, a new Pride Celebration wallpaper to honor the LGBTQ+ community and culture, as well as bug fixes related to CarPlay, Screen Time, and Spotlight. It is anticipated that Apple will announce iOS 17 with more significant changes during its WWDC keynote on June 5.
